ISPO, the European Ski Show, held in Munich, Germany will run 29/Jan-1/Feb, 2012. Skigo will be launching new products for the 2012/13 season. Skigo Canada will return from the show in time for Easterns to being talking about the new products with retails, coaches and wax techs. Pictures and additional information will be released on the Skigo Facebook page.
Skigo will be on-location at the Canadian Eastern Championships 2012. We will be giving waxing recommendations as well as supporting sponsored athletes. Our tent will also have a display of Skigo poles that (when you're not racing) you can test to see just how much better Skigo poles are over the competition for lightness, strength and extreme stiffness. Caoches will want to stop by and ask about the new products for next season just launched at the ISPO Ski Show just a few days earlier. Hope to see you there!
A busy weekend with Skigo being in more places at the same time. It was a weekend of great skiing conditions at all three locations. The Skigo gang was happy to meet with new and familiar faces over the weekend. The wax was running superbly and we had many people, very pleased people, letting us know how well the grip and glide were going! Thanks to all of the skiers who took time to test the Skigo line of poles (Racing, Elit, Vasa, XC, etc.) during Highlands Nordic's Demo Day. It was cool to hear how many skiers are following the Skigo sponsored athletes (see our Facebook album for pictures of the Seniors; Sorry Juniors and Juv's are not shown because they are minors, but we are equally pleased with them too!).
Congratulations to everyone at the Trials. It was quite the weather weekend and no one could complain about the lack of weather variety! We're looking forward to the whole list of World Junior and U23 selected athletes getting released. In the meantime good luck to waiting to hear! Thanks again to all the teams for testing and using Skigo waxes. It's always interesting to watch the races, see how skiers are dong and then hear about the waxing choices (particularly Sunday's classic race).
Everyone at Skigo and their families would like to wish you and your family a wonderful New Year. We hope you have lots of snow to ski! We hope you had a great Christmas too and look forward to seeing you on the trails and at the races!
We'll be on location at Highlands Nordic this Sunday (18/Dec/2011) to talk about wax and poles with people. Highlands has made a loop of man-made for folks to enjoy. Hope to see you there for the Yuletide Blast event. Highlands has extended the entry deadline to 5pm Saturday.
Congratulations to all the skiers at the second NorAm of the season. Some interesting excitment in some of the races. Good to see that skiers are getting the "ski-legs" under them. Very awesome to see how well many of the new Seniors (last year's Juniors) are racing so well. Keep up the great work everyone!
Thanks to Sovereign Lake NSC for hosting the first NorAm of the season again. Everything ran very smoothly and the conditions were very good. Congratulations to all of the skiers at the races. There was a large field (of about 260) that was very competitive. Getting the first big race under the belt is always important regardless of your results -- and it applies to skiers, coaches and all helpers. There's always something to learn. Skigo sponsored athletes had a chance to test and use their new 2011/12 Skigo Racing poles. The new poles were looked at by many coaches too. The reviews on the poles were very, very positive! Waxes used over the weekend of races included HF Blue and HF Red for the kickwaxes while C105 powder and C44/7 fluid were the dominant glide waxes. We had the chance to educate a few coaches about covering the HF kickwaxes with C44/7 fluid to boost glide a bit while maintaining grip. Thanks to all of the coaches and wax techs for testing and using Skigo waxes!
We've just started a Google+ page to complement our Facebook page and Twitter account. We're just starting to get a handle on it. We'll try to replicate the same announcements on Google+ that we make on Facebook for folks living in the Google-world. Skigo on Google+
The first World Cup for cross country has now happened in Sjusjoen, Norway. Grim early season snow necessitated moving the race from Beitostolen, Norway to Sjusjoen (in Norwegian and Swedish the 'sj' makes a 'shh' sound). The folks in Sjusjoen had enough cold weather and snow guns to cover the course. Congratulations to the organizers for running a good race on such short notice and difficult conditions. With temperatures centering around zero with 100% man-made snow the conditions were not typical early season skiing. While the sun was low in the sky there was still enough warmth to give some thaw-freeze to the snow. Combined with a very high humidity Skigo CM10 shone as the best glide top coat over Yellow HF on a base of Graphite LF. With Christer Majbäck joining Skigo Norway's Technical Crew many combinations were tested and verified. The result was numerous teams using this Skigo combination for wins and top-10's. The field of skiers was extremely competitive (just look at how many places are grouped together within 1:00 minute). Congratulations to all of the skiers racing at Sjusjoen! Post note: Skigo C22 Fluid was second on the test list after CM10.
The newest Skigo wax for the 2011/12 season is C110. This new fluoro wax has been under development for the past couple years. Aimed at colder snow and harder snow that is relatively humid in the -10° to -20°C range. It will be available in powder and solid (block) forms starting this winter. As a general suggestion, C110 sits between C105 and C380 when you are testing. We suggest that you test C110 whenever you are testing C105 or C380 to gain an understanding of its performance relative to these two waxes that are so well used at races. Every season a combination of C105 over C380 is the winning combination on very cold days and C110 is an ideal test for these same conditions. We recommend you wax the ski first with Skigo Graphite LF and then Skigo Green HF before topping with C110. And, yes, if conditions are right we'll be trying C110 over C380 as a comparison too!
The Skigo 2011 Roller Ski line is now completely available. Both the classic and the skate models are composed of carbonfibre to provide strength, lightness, a smooth ride and an experience so close to a snow ski.
The Carbon 780 Classic roller ski has a C-C of 780mm with a smooth ratchet wheel to provide "grip" when diagonal striding. The longer length provides a skiing feeling very close to snow when combined with the shaft that has a true camber that flexes as you weightshift from ski to ski. Feeling the ski's camber flex helps you practice and maintain good skiing technique during non-snow training. The wheels and shaft having the width of a winter ski provides control and feel that is even more snow-like. The 100% carbonfibre means strength for a shaft that supports heavier skiers too while not being heavy. Combining the carbon shaft with the true flex means very reduced road vibrations giving you a more enjoyable ski. The Carbon 335 Skate roller ski is designed with serious skaters in mind. The larger 100mm diameter wheels with their narrow width allow for the ski to be "edged" while remaining clear of the road surface. The 2011 shaft is composed of 99.5% carbonfibre and 0.5% Kevlar. The small Kevlar addition aids in the snow ski feeling by allowing slightly more camber flex over the 61cm C-C while maintaining strength. Designed for warm weather comfort the new Skigo Roller Ski Glove is perfect for roller skiing and several other summer activities. The supple Clarino palm is very similar to the Skigo X-Skin racing glove. Providing protection while allowing a delicate feel of the pole. The glove back is a thin, stretch mesh for maximum coolness. This glove can also be used when canoeing, kayaking, summer hiking, etc.
Next season's Cross Country National Championships (2012) will be hosted by CNMSA at Mont Ste Anne, QC. We're looking forward to this event in part because it will be a shorter drive :-) MSA also has some great trails both for racing and for recreational skiing that Nationals will be great for exploring. The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics will now include Women's Ski Jumping. The London (England) meeting making the decision was just held. From this Women's Nordic Combined will likely happen in the future once a few Olympics happen with Jumping. With winter starting to recede (yes, we know it's holding on in several locales!) we are starting to think about roller skiing. The begining of May should see Skigo Skate and Classic roller skis arriving along with Skigo Roller poles and Roller Ski Vests. We are not forgetting about skiers and coaches we spoke with throughout the winter season about athlete sponsorships for 2011/12. Do send those resumes in so we can move forward the discussions and help athletes go faster with the best and stiffest ski pole available!
