Used by the best Nordic and Alpine ski teams around the world! NEWS
Ski*go Canada is pleased to announce that Ski*go is an Official Supplier to Cross Country Canada (CCC) for ski poles starting this year. The ski poles join Ski*go ski wax which has been an important component in the CCC wax boxes for several years and we look forward to continuing this role. We have been sponsoring Juvenile & Junior skiers with Ski*go Racing poles for many years to help them achieve their best and reach their goals. Adding ski poles to CCC's supplier pool is a natural evolution as these young skiers advance through their skiing careers and reach National Teams and/or Training Centres. We also look forward to establishing new sponsorships with skiers at all levels! The Ski*go Racing pole continues to prove itself every season with technical advancements that benefit all racers pushing to be their best!
A video preview of the 2010/11 Skigo Racing pole is
available on YouTube
or through the Skigo Facebook page.
The Classic 780 Roller Skis have arrived today and the Roller Ski Poles arrived last week. We now have videos for both the roller skis and roller ski poles. You can find the videos via our Facebook page (see link at menu bottom) or on YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0w-K9jlkAE). These roller skis are quickly becoming popular and we have placed a second order. The skate roller skis should be here in about 2 weeks.
As the season has finished for most skiers and ski teams (lack of snow) there are still a few lucky ones that have enough snow to keep working away at technique on the real white stuff. However, many are starting to look ahead to next season and we have started to receive questions about sponsorships for next season. Sponsorship requests may be forwarded to us by e-mailing "info(AT)skigo.ca" with a skiing resume. Skiing resumes should include: athlete/team name, athlete contact info, coach contact info, parent contact info (if under 18yrs), results history for the past few years (race, when, position, category) long term goals, next season's goals, training hours and training goals, and other sports involved with. We look forward to establishing a long-term relationship with sponsored skiers and teams to help achieve long-term goals because it takes years of support from family, coaches, teams/clubs and sponsors.
We've produced a new Tech Sheet for New Snow & Fine Snow. This adds to the list of several other Tech Sheets available. You can find a full list on the Coaches Page of the available Tech Sheets.
Just for fun we've made a cross-country crossword for this spring. You can get the crossword here as a PDF file. Hope you enjoy it. If there's enough interest we'll do another one in the future with some draw prizes. Roller skiing is just around the corner for many people. We have a new Ski*go roller ski pole available at the beginning of May. This 80% Carbonfiber pole comes with ferrules and the Ski*go racing strap plus the exciting feature High Viz. The High Viz feature makes the shaft glow when any light shines on it. Combined with the new Ski*go Safety Vest for roller skiing roller skiers can be more visible than ever. The Ski*go Carbon 335 Classic and the Ski*go Carbon 335 Skate roller skiers will also be available starting at the begining of May. We'll announcing changes/updates with the winter goods in the next couple of weeks.
Congratulations to Jorgen Brink of Sweden for winning the Vasaloppet in a very exciting and tight finish. Ski*go is a proud sponsor of Jorgen Brink. We have a picture of Jorgan just after the loppet win wearing the victory wreath. The Swedish Vasaloppet held its 86th running this Sunday (5/Mar) for the 90km distance. About 15,000 skiers participated in the 90km and 50,553 skiers participated in shorter distances.
A lot of exciting racing happened at the Ontario Midget Championships. Both race days saw cool overnight temperatures with warm days. With the early rising sun and bright sunny days everyone got some sunburn! With the XC SkiCross an exciting new event Sunday had lots of excited young skiers. To add to the atmosphere medal presentations were attended by Angela Schmidt-Foster (former National Team & past Olympian), Ute (former East German Team & past Olympian), Len Valjas (current National Team) and X (former National Cycling Team). Congratulations to everyone who was there and for their great efforts.
Congratulations to the Swedish Mens team for winning gold. The last time the Swedish mens team won the Olympic relay was 1988 in Calgary. Christer Majback, Ski*go owner and former Swedish team member for many years, points out that the Swedish team also won the relay at the World Championships in 1989 too. Marcus Hellner (Skigo Sponsored) got a certain section of the crowd excited by accepting his award without a shirt (just to show how warm it was) along with Anders Sodergren (Ski*go sponsored), Johan Olsson and Daniel Rickardsson. Congratulations to Norway who won silver in a very exciting finish by Petter Northug (Ski*go sponsored with his on glove line) that you must watch on video. Congratulations to the Canadian Mens Team too. They have raised the bar significantly for all Canadian results and have shown the strong depth the team has, and will have into the future. Good work!
The snow conditions were quite good for the Haliburton race. Overnight it kept getting cool (-2°C) and then warmer during the day (+2°) with wet snow, slush and/or drizzle. It was, in most regards, like the weather happening at Whistler Olympic Park for the long distance races! Nice to meet the Haliburton Ski Club on their home course.
Wow! What an incredible set of races at the Olympics today with both the Mens' and Womens' Team Sprint races. First congratulations to athletes. These were very tough races. Canada and the USA performed most excellently with both mens and womens teams qualifying for the final. The shocker of the day was the Swedish Mens team not qualifying. To pick several athletes out I will start with Devon Kershaw and Alex Harvey of the Canadian Team. Devon's last lap was superb and many kudos to him for setting a top position for Alex's final lap. Alex showed that he can ski with the best of the best skiers the whole lap. Devon and Alex gave Canada the best ever finish. Petter Northug (Skigo glove sponsorship) just dominated the last several hundred meters to show no one has a finishing kick like he does! The Swedish women showed their strength by leading virtually the entire race. Charlotte Kalla (Skigo sponsored) and Anna Haag looked like they were the favorites to win until the German team's Clydia Nystad used the draft behind Anna Haag to burst into the lead for the finish. Canada and the USA had a photo finish. The funny moment of the day was the mens flower presentation. The teams are to march out in order 2-1-3 to match the podimum positions. But they went out in order 2-3-1. One of the presentation guides noticed the misorder and said, "Norway should be in the middle. Your Norway right?". Petter Northug replied, "Yeah." Guide said, "Okay, you go to the gold podium." Petter nodded and said "I know." Oh yeah, Norway knows!
OFSAA had 740 competitors for Thursday's individual races. It was a huge field of athetes to get started. Congratulations to all of the athletes and the oragnziers for having such a large event run smoothly. Thanks to Mountain View for hosting the event and having good snow conditions :-) Thanks for stopping by Ski*go tent for rilling or just a chat. FYI the Speedy Ski Roller was using the Z2N-1-33 rill which is a fine, broken pattern. Hope to see you next season at OFSAA 2011 in Ottawa -- Ski*go will be there for the 8th year of sponsorship!
Congratulations to all of the skiers at the Gatineau Loppet. While the park has not had the same volume of snow as most winters enough has graced the park for the loppet to run without a problem. Thanks to Fresh Air Experience at the ski show where we camped to talk waxing and recommendations. It was also very nice to have a chance to chat with the many international skiers doing the loppet (US, Sweden, Norway, Finland, etc.).
Watching the races on the televsion can be exciting, but for
skiers knowing the weather conditions helps make it more real.
What is the temperature? Relative humidity? Snowfall? Or rain? These weather reports and forecasts are generated by a special team of meteorologists from Environment Canada who are on-site. This team has been preparing for the Olympics for the past two years. The first major event was the 2008 Canadian National Championships. It took the team a few days to "dial in" on the specific weather patterns at Nationals, but once they did the forecasts were very good. We expect excellence from the weather forecasters at the Olympics too! With the weather information you can dream about how you would be waxing your skis if you were on-site!
Congratulations to the many, many skiers who raced at Easterns. It was a large race with over 640 licenced racers (all getting CCC & FIS points). The weather was truely cold on Friday and Saturday, but at least the wind was not as bad during the Saturday races as on the Friday training day. Sunday was a balmy treat with next to no wind and the daytime high reaching about -4°C for the last racers out. The cold, dry conditions lined up for the famous Ski*go C380 to be an obvious choice for testing. Adding in the very abrasive snow after previous week's 40mm of rain just made C380 prove itself with its great durability on Friday (training day) and Saturday. With the extra grooming done for Sunday plus the rising humidity and temperature the glide wax shifted to Violet LF plus P16 for the early starters and then C44 fluid as the top added over this for the later groups. Sunday's kickwax started with a base binder of Ski*go Violet klister ironed in for durability followed by HF Red (+1/-3) for grip. For skiers with more technique/skill a thin cover of HF Blue (-1/-20) was it. These recipies stayed on for all distances with the same grip at the start and finish. We'll bring more AirTrim cold weather, heat-exchange masks to the next race. The skiers using the masks during their race on Saturday likely felt a lot better for wearing the mask. With the low dropping below -26°C just after dawn many folks wondered if the 11:00 start was enough of a delay. Fortunately this timing worked out to meet the requirements to start all races at the scheduled times. It was great seeing so many familiar faces (skiers, coaches, wax techs and parents) at this large race. Hopefully we'll have another chance to meet again at a (relatively) smaller race this season! Of course the new people met, and skis waxed, at Easterns we hope to meet again too! A reminder that Ski*go waxes are available at Fresh Air Experience in Ottawa.
The annual Mono Nordic ski race is happening this Saturday (23/Jan) in Orangeville at Mono Park. There's a skate race in the morning and as a new addition a classical race just after lunch. Ski*go will be on-site to provide waxing information and wax a few skis of competitors (or their parents because it really helps to have the parents understand what faster skis feel like -- so good :-) ). Ski*go is going to be contributing to some of the prizes as well. Next weekend is the big Eastern Canadians which also doubles as an Ontario Cup, Quebec Cup, University Cup and, of course, a NorAm. Don't forget Thursday night at Fresh Air Experience where we'll be conducting a clinic.
Congratulations to all of the skiers and coaches participatg in the Ontario Winter Games. Though the site had not had new snow for quite a while the trails were in good condition with a lot of fast skiing. The waxing recommendations have been posted on the Race Reports page now. The pictures taken of the sprint races are now posted on Facebook.
Congratulations to everyone participating in the U23/Junior trials and racing for FIS/CPL points too. The teams are getting named as we post this. We've heard from a couple of the skiers selected (wahoo!) and they are very excited! Complete lists should be up on the CCC site later today. A special congratulations to Andy Shields† of Waterloo NSC for making the team! We will be posting the waxing reports on the Race Reports page as soon as we catch-up with e-mail and orders. The AirTrim re-stock just arrived and we will be getting these out to athletes and coaches. † - Ski*go Racing Pole and Glove sponsorship.
Christmas, New Years and other celebrations are upon us all once again. All of us at Ski*go wish you, your family and your friends the most happy times! Of course have some good sking too. As they say in Sweden "God Yule och gott Nytt År!" (Good Christmas and Good New Year).
Congratulations to all of the skiers who participated in the two Sprint races on Saturday and Sunday, and the long race on Tuesday. An extra round of cheer for the skiers that pushed hard and qualified for 2010.
Congratulations to everyone who raced this past weekend at Sovereign Lake. For many of the skiers this was a set of critical races for Olympic team selection for both Canadian and American athletes. The temperature and humidity for the races made for several waxing choice transitions depending on when a skier was to get on course. It was great meeting with everyone again at the start of the season -- hope to see you again at another race in the future. NEW! Photos from the Sovereign Lake races are now posted. Link from the Photos page to get to the Ski*go Facebook album.
The new 2009/10 catalogue is now available by PDF. You can view the 09/10 catalogue over the web in a PDF file. Glossy, printed catalogues should be available in a couple of weeks. Le catalogue est désormais disponible en français.
We've just started Ski*go page on Facebook where we can post waxing videos, pictures and have discussions. More will be added over the season. Join as a "fan" of the page and you will receive updates from Facebook when new items are added to the page. You can also posts questions in the discussion area too.
Ski*go is please to be participating in the SkiTrax Fantasy FIS WC Contest again. A pair of Ski*go 335 Carbon Rollerskis is the 3rd place award for some lucky person at the end of the contest. More information can be found at SkiTrax.
The snow is coming. Are you getting ready for another great snowy season? Starting with the 2009/10 Ski*go products will be distributed through Boulder Nordic Sport (BNS) in Boulder, Colorado for the US. Roger Knight has joined Nathan at BNS along with Zach & Amy Caldwell this season. BNS has secured the "skigo.com" domain name (click the US flag in the top left corner) and will have information there later in the season. You can continue to browse here or at the Ski*go main site (www.ski-go.com) in Swedish in the meantime. We are happy to continue answering questions from skiers and coaches from everywhere. We have just finished proofing the 2009/10 catalogue and it will be coming off the printing press in early November to be here by mid-November. A PDF copy should be available before that as usual. We've just started to add new updates and information to the 'New' page for 2009/10.
Ski*go Canada has starting importing to Canada the AirTrim masks from Sweden. These masks help regulate heat and moisture transfer to make breathing easier. Different filters are available depending on the air flow and/or heat/moisture transfer needed. These are particularly helpful for skiers who have "cold induced asthma" or similer conditions. They can be used during warm-up, racing, cool-down or all three situations. The winner of the Swedish Vasaloppet for three years (2003, 2005, 2007; 2nd 2009), Oskar Svard, has been using AirTrim for years. AirTrim is also endorsed by the Swedish National Ski Team. The masks are available in three colours (Blue, Grey, Black) for 2009/10. Can be used by anyone in cold environments such skiing, running, cycling, industrial freezers, the Artic and high mountain conditions. Contact us for more information or ask your local store to order them for you from Ski*go Canada.
Ski*go is pleased to be providing a Pro-Deal to members of the CSPS for both Nordic and Alpine patrollers. All of the Ski*go waxes can be used for Nordic and Alpine skiing. All of the products are shown on this website and in our Catalogue. We appeciate it!
The PDF technical sheets listed on the Retailer Page have been added to and updated.
In SkiTrax Annual 2008 columnist Bob Woodward has a follow-up about the "Ex-Elit gold hard wax". This wax continues to thrive under the Ski*go label. This wax has been treasured by many skiers over the decades by coaches and skiers in many countries. The waxes were first started back in the 1930's by BR Lindgren of Sweden under the family name. The brand was renamed first Ex-Elit and then Lind-Ex in 1979. This gold hard wax was known as simply "Yellow" for many years. In the early 1990's Lind-Ex and Ski*go merged together with the Lind-Ex/Ex-Elit Yellow kickwax at first remaining under the Lind-Ex label. When the decision came to place all of the waxes under the Ski*go label the Yellow became Yellow Special. During all of these decades this successful kickwax has remained unchanged because it works so well. With the packaging changes for the 08/09 season the wax has been renamed "XC Orange" but still has the familiar yellow colour inside.
